Why does the share count go up when the share button is clicked?

You may have noticed that when you click a sharing button the counter will go up even if you don’t complete the share. This is because in order to be sure the share went through we’d have to put JavaScript on every service’s share destination page in order to verify that the share actually happened which, as you can imagine, would present problems for both us and our share service providers.

If you’re worried that your share counts are inaccurate, don’t be. We use abuse filters on our share counter and analytics that catch this behavior and make sure the counts are as accurate as possible.
