1,000,000 Buttons per Day – We Did It!

Last month we said the number of AddThis buttons served each day would probably reach the 1,000,000 milestone by the end of January. After writing that entry, we looked at each other and said: “Can we really do this? Maybe we should have said February!”.

Well, we are happy to report that our prediction was absolutely on target. As of yesterday, AddThis is serving over 1,000,000 buttons per day. To put it into perspective, that’s about 40,000/hour, 700/minute, or 11/sec. Not bad…except for the bandwidth, ouch!

So moving to new servers was an absolute must if we wanted to continue to provide a reliable service and a fast delivery of the buttons. Maybe this is a good time for removing that BETA sign from our website.

Anyway, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for using the button. Please continue to spread the word.

May the Social Force be with you! :-)

AddThis Widget Subscriptions Reach 1,000 on Widgetbox

Nice! The AddThis widget just reached 1,000 subscriptions on Widgetbox.com today; it’s still the most popular widget. We certainly hope we’ll be able to stay on that top 5 list a little while longer.

New: the AddThis Social Button Builder

There are so many combinations of settings when it comes to selecting the AddThis button that is right for you:

- type of button (e.g. bookmarking, feed, etc)
- look and size of the button
- location of the button (e.g. website, blog, newsletter, MySpace, etc),
- type of blogging platform (TypePad, WordPress, Blogger, etc)
- etc

So to make it easier to select your button (or buttons), we’ve created a cool little tool, the AddThis Social Button Builder.

Enjoy!

Moving to Bigger, Better, and Faster Servers

We certainly hope you all had a great holiday.

The traffic on AddThis is continuing to grow very fast – we are now serving about 750,000 buttons per day, or over 8 per second – so we’ve decided to finally move to bigger, better, and faster servers.

The move will happen over the weekend. Disruption should be minimal.
