AddThis Wordpress Plugin

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007
We now also have a Wordpress Plugin. This Plugin will automatically insert the AddThis widget below each post in your blog (see it below this post). It’s very easy to install, you don’t even need to change anything in your templates. Here are the instructions:
1) Download it on your computer, and unzip it
2) Upload it into your wp-content/plugins directory
3) Log into your Wordpress blog, click on the ‘Plugins’ tab, and click ‘Activate’

And yes, the Plugin also supports Stats. If you want to get bookmarking statistics (e.g. top bookmarked posts over various time periods), open the .php file and set the ‘addthis_username’ variable to, well, your AddThis username.

Edit (2008-12-23):

We updated our plugin. You can download the new and improved version here:

Crunch, Crunch, Crunch!

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Finally we found some time to write about it…What a week!

On Monday Michael Arrigton of TechCrunch wrote a great review about AddThis. What an honor to be “Crunched”, it really means a lot to us. We got a lot of visibility and attention from that post. We are still going through our emails. Thanks again, Michael!

But visibility means new load on our servers, so yesterday we added yet another server to guarantee fast and reliable delivery of our widgets. We’ve also done some much needed database tuning, as our number of users has now reached the 1/2 million mark.

Hopefully next week will be a little calmer.

Have a great weekend!

100 Million Buttons Served To-Date – 2 Million / Day

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Ooops! We did it again…We just passed the 2 million mark (up 100% from last month).

AddThis is now serving over 2 million buttons each day, which brings us to a total of over 100 million buttons served since we launched back in October at DEMO.

Thank you, to all of you for using our widgets and for sending us constant feedback so we can continue to improve our service.

To mark this event we have decided to release some interesting statistics based on data we have gathered since we launched. The statistics show the relative popularity of the bookmarking services and feed readers we support. Note: ‘Favorites’ here means all bookmarks saved locally (in the browser, and for any type of browser).

Bookmarking Services

Feed Reader Services

The graph for bookmarking services looks as we expected, but we were surprised to see how popular Google Readers has become, especially compared to Bloglines.

We will soon make these kinds of statistics available for web publishers, in their AddThis account, so they can have a better idea of where their content is bookmarked or fed to. Interestingly, these charts will look very different from site to site.
