AddThis Wordpress Plugin

We now also have a Wordpress Plugin. This Plugin will automatically insert the AddThis widget below each post in your blog (see it below this post). It’s very easy to install, you don’t even need to change anything in your templates. Here are the instructions:
1) Download it on your computer, and unzip it
2) Upload it into your wp-content/plugins directory
3) Log into your Wordpress blog, click on the ‘Plugins’ tab, and click ‘Activate’

And yes, the Plugin also supports Stats. If you want to get bookmarking statistics (e.g. top bookmarked posts over various time periods), open the .php file and set the ‘addthis_username’ variable to, well, your AddThis username.

Edit (2008-12-23):

We updated our plugin. You can download the new and improved version here:

I tried doing the automatic update through my WordPress blog, however, after the plug in was updated it produced an error. Now the plug in wont activate. Here is my error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home/www/mywebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/addthis/addthis_social_widget.php on line 35

    Any help with this?

Added this to my blog this morning and then got the error message.
Then spent some time searching the net for a fix.
I take it I’m probably using php4 and that addthis only works with wordpress on php5?
    Is that right?
Will the next upgrade be php4 compatible?
My web hosts are too stingy to upgrade to php5.

  9. mjk Says:

Hey guys, as you probably have figured out, our plugins were only compatible with PHP5.

However, we’ve backported to PHP4! You’ll see the old-school version in the /php4 directory if you download it fresh from

    Best,
    Matt

Hi all, the issues yours having may be because the plugin is no longer just a php file in the root of the “wp-content/plugins” folder, it now has its own folder so try a clean install of it through your ftp program.

My issue is that this no longer has a drop down feature, it now takes you to a separate page :-(

I need help with the Wordpress plugin. At the WP page, it says: “Do I need to create an account? No. You only need to create an account if you want to see how your users are sharing your blog; the sharing itself works the same either way.” I have an addthis account, and I included my username in my admin area on WP after installing the plugin. Yet nothing happens. I’m not seeing a graph report at my addthis account.

  23. Michele Says:

I use it already with Joomla. Yesterday I tried this in my WordPress site: basically a great idea. I had one positioning issue, where the button on page bottoms would move the tags to the right. Furthermore, within the admin area, I got many blank pages.

  24. Dominic Says:

I’ve tried version 1.5.4 and 1.5.5, and everytime I try to save options I get the following error: “Error! Options page not found.”

    Anyone with the same problem?

  25. Tayo Says:

This is the nicest share/bookmark plugin I’ve found yet! 5 stars! Only one question: somehow it is adopting part of the style of my blogs theme (it adds the same rounded corner boxes that my theme uses to surround headers and titles. Has anyone experienced this with their theme, and if so, have you looked into removing code that changed this plugin’s appearance? Thanks
