Ever since we launched version 1.0, I’ve been in love with its ability to help track the pulse of the Social Web. Since then, we’ve been experimenting with ways that we could show even more. With today’s launch, we’ve made it easier to see how people are sharing all over the world.
Right on the first page, you can see which services have the most shares, how services have been trending over the last month and their percentage of the overall sharing. You can also get insights into particular categories of services, like social networks or blogging sites, or even zoom into a particular service and see more information about its rankings and daily performance over the last month.
We’ve improved comparing countries as well. Now, you can compare up to three countries at a time, and see how sharing in each country has trended over time. As before, you can also compare which services are most popular. Did you know that in Brazil, Orkut is the #1 sharing service, and Facebook is only #5?
For those of you who really follow the Web and social media space, we hope that this can become a resource for you to see how people are sharing with all the great services and tools that are available today. We’re confident that over time the AddThis Service Directory is going to yield all kinds of fascinating new insights into how people use the Social Web.
If you have any feedback or thoughts about how we can make this even better, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. Drop us a comment or e-mail me at – justin@addthis.com.
The Web is all a flutter over the recent launch of Google’s most recent foray into the Social Web, Google Buzz. Within hours of my friends getting access, they all wanted to know if they could share to Google Buzz using AddThis. I’m pleased to say the answer is yes.
This means that you’ll be able to share articles to Google Buzz from any of the over 600,000 websites that have integrated AddThis. There’s no need to add an extra button to your page. If you have AddThis, you’re ready to go.
You could also share to Google Reader and thus Google Buzz from our Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome browser extensions.
In the meantime, we’re looking into ways that we can more directly integrate. We’ll report back when we have more information.
Like most of us in the office, I love sharing links with friends and posting them to my favorite online services. With the new AddThis Toolbar, I can do it all with just one click. It’s pretty awesome.
Well, after a few weeks of these new browser extensions being out in the world, we’re excited to report that they have been a big success. For Firefox users specifically, we’ve seen a 3x increase in sharing from the previous version of the add-on. Plus, someone with the new AddThis toolbar shares 39x more often than the average AddThis user.
Website publishers, this is great for you. When people share more often, that means they’re sharing your content more often and your content is getting exposed to even more new users.
As we’ve said before, our goal is to make it easy for anyone to share anything, anywhere. We’re excited to evolve these sharing tools and make them even better. Stay tuned!
So… what do Grammy award winning music group The Gorillaz and Team USA for this year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver have in common? They both use the AddThis sharing platform to make their widgets shareable. (Shown below.)
Our mission with the AddThis platform is to make it easy for anyone to share anything, anywhere. Whether your users are enjoying your website, widgets, or anything really, they should be able to share it to every corner of the Social Web. We’re building out our platform and tools to make that happen.
Looking to incorporate AddThis into your own widgets? Have you seen the Flash examples and code samples that we’ve put together?

Here at World HQ, we were very flattered to find out that AddThis is being highlighted in two social media marketing books. One just became available and the other will be coming to a bookstore near you this spring.
First, there’s “Blogging to Drive Business: Create and Maintain Valuable Customer Connections” by Eric Butow and Rebecca Bollwitt, which is available now. I just received a copy, and I’m really looking forward to reading it. I’m a HUGE believer in blogging within business. It’s allowed us to all stay in touch. *smiles*
Secondly, there’s “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Social Media Marketing“, which is written by Jennifer Abernerthy. This book won’t be available until early April 2010 but you can pre-order it on Amazon today. From what I hear, it’s going to be pretty awesome, especially if you’re new to social media marketing.
As we continue to evolve and push our platform and tools to new levels, we’re excited to be a standard part of the social media process and conversation.
If you ever have any feedback about how we can serve you better, don’t hesitate to e-mail me - justin@addthis.com. Thanks!
