Problem with Sharing to Facebook

**UPDATE** 3/11/2011 10:00 AM EST: Facebook’s fix has been stable so we’ve reverted back to our normal sharing integration. We’ll continue to monitor Facebook sharing but everything is back to normal now.

**UPDATE** 3/10/2011 10:00 PM EST: Facebook has deployed a fix intended to address the core issue.  We are running a full suite of tests and will revert to our normal integration once this is confirmed fully functional.  We are currently still on an alternate integration, which works as expected with minor limitations on posts with multiple images.  We will update here once we resume fully normal operation.

**UPDATE** 3/10/2011 1:30 PM EST: Facebook has reenabled our workaround so we have been operating correctly for a few hours now.  We will continue to monitor in case of any changes.

**UPDATE** 3/10/2011 6 AM EST: Facebook has indicated a fix will be deployed on their side by “no later than Thursday evening”.  We are working with Facebook directly and will provide updates as they are available.  The mobile endpoint workaround will stay in place in the interim, so Facebook sharing is currently functional.  You can follow Facebook updates on this issue on their Live Status Page.

**UPDATE** 3/10/2011 12 AM EST: In an effort to keep the system as stable as possible while Facebook works on a fix for the root cause, we are currently leveraging Facebook’s mobile share endpoint for all shares. Though the user experience is geared to a smaller form factor, it does function correctly and allows us to continue to support sharing functionality.  Facebook has let us know that a fix will be deployed quickly; we will resume our normal operation as soon as that happens.

**UPDATE** 3/9/2011 6 PM EST: We deployed a workaround to restore core Facebook sharing functionality via AddThis while we await a more permanent solution from Facebook. We are continuing to monitor progress on the issue from their side and will keep you updated with additional information as we have it. In the interim, we believe the workaround re-enables all sharing features. Thanks for your patience.

This morning we got reports that their were problems with sharing to Facebook.  After some investigation,  it appears that overnight Facebook may have introduced a bug as part of an update that has broken Facebook Sharing.

With the bug, any url that hasn’t been previously cached within Facebook will initially not show the title and image of the page and then get an error when shared.

This bug has been discovered by a number of other developers and reported to Facebook.  We’re escalating the issue through our channels and hope to have it resolved as quickly as possible.

If you’d like to see the issue first hand or if you have a few extra special URLs, Facebook does make a tool that you can force URLS to be cached in their system.

    he tenido problema al compartir mis cosas y programas con facebook, manifiesta que he sido bloqueado con programas ofensivos los cuales no he publicado tales cosas a menos que hayan falsificado mi contraseña atraves del programa de AddThis. a veces me responde como en otras ocasiones no.

    he tenido problema al compartir mis cosas y programas con facebook, manifiesta que cunado desea compartir con facebook le sale error o me manifiesta que he sido bloqueado por programas ofensivos los cuales no he publicado tales cosas, cambie mi contraseña para mejorar esta situación, con los otros programas de addthis no tengo problema se publica lo que manifiesto o comparto, me gustaría saber cual es la falla.

    I Have tested only Facebook, Twitter and e-mail and last 2 are ok, only problem with Facebook…. hehehe and I have added AddThis just today to my site :)

    Thanks for the confirmation of the issue. I first noticed it last night.

    The issue can be difficult to diagnose because of the “previously cached” aspect of the problem. Any page what was previously shared can be shared again.

    I’ve also reported the issue to Facebook and hope that they’re quickly able to fix it.

    Thank you for the head’s up. It had be befudled yesterday. Now I see it is posting but it is not allowing me to post the avatar I choose to, such as the Group avatar and not a member’s avatar that it choose on it’s own. I am sure that will be straightened out shortly also.

    Does work but now the first image is shared and no way to choose if you want an image or not or if there are more images to choose from so for me partly resolved.

The biggest issue I’m having is that since it isn’t using the normal functionality, I can’t change who I’m sending the links out to. I have one group of people I don’t send certain links to (especially political articles), and I’d like to be able to send these out to my other friends. Thanks for the great app, and all the efforts at a fix.

    I have an issue using AddThis for mobile on my Android phone. I can add an article to Facebook, but my FB picture renders over the box where I am supposed to be able to enter my own additional comment, and I cannot make any personal comment at all.

    I also have problems using AddThis for Twitter in that it does not work smoothly and automatically as it should.

    Can anyone advise how to solve these issues please?

    When I’m sharing a page on Facebook the preview looks fine (with title, text and image), but when I press ‘Share’ the image doesn’t show up on my profile, only title and text. Any ideas why this is the case? Before it used to work fine.

    Hi there guys! Great plugin but it is giving me some sort of headache. I don’t know if it’s a problem with facebook or addthis though. When I try to share a post on facebook, sometimes it shares the post tags instead of the post excerpt (ideal situation). This problem is happening on my client’s website (http://www.planning.net.br/category/bistro/). Try to share the 1st post and then try to share the 2nd. the 1st is being shared with the tags attached and the 2nd with the post excerpt =/

    I’d be more than thankful if you shed a light on this issue, guys =)

    Sometimes LIKE button does not appear at all if I use script tag. And I noticed that such button is corrupted in Opera. While iframe works fine, but this will cause html error because my page is //W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN

    Hi,
    Still having issues with FB ! It is not picking up all the available images on a specific post (most importantly, the MAIN image) … so I cannot pot to FB.
    EX. URL: http://www.addthis.com/blog/2011/03/09/problem-with-sharing-to-facebook/
    If you use the FB share icon, you will notice that it will not give you the main image (guy in pool) as an option for the post!
    Guidance please … as this has been an ongoing issue for a while.
