Introducing Individual Share Counts

Today, we’re happy to offer new buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, Delicious, VK, Linkedin, and Odnoklassniki, with individual share counts.

These new surfaces demonstrate the popularity of your content on the top social networks.  We retrieve share counts directly from each service’s API; data is cached and loaded asynchronously for optimal page load performance.

We’ll be integrating additional service counts in future releases (and we’d love to know which services you think we should add next).

Toolbox Support and Icon Sizes
Both horizontal and vertical toolboxes are supported, with 16×16, 20×20, and 32×32 pixel icons.

Horizontal Toolbox Examples:

If you already use AddThis, you can start using the individual share counters horizontal toolbox with this HTML snippet:

<!-- Horizontal toolbox -->
<div class="addthis_toolbox addthis_default_style addthis_32x32_style">
  <a class="addthis_counter_facebook"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_twitter"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_pinterest_share"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_reddit"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_linkedin"></a>

Vertical Toolbox Examples:

If you already use AddThis, you can start using the individual share counters vertical toolbox with this HTML snippet:

<!-- Vertical toolbox -->
<div class="addthis_toolbox addthis_floating_style addthis_32x32_style">
  <a class="addthis_counter_facebook"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_twitter"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_pinterest_share"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_reddit"></a>
  <a class="addthis_counter_linkedin"></a>

In both cases, if you’re not using AddThis already, you’ll also need to include our JavaScript file:

<!-- AddThis code -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="”></script>

You can get these counters without registering, but if you’re not already an AddThis user and you’d like to receive analytics about how your content is being shared, you’ll need to create an account. It just takes a minute to set up!

Read our full documentation for more information.

Got questions or comments? Know which services you would like us to add next? We’d love to know what you think!

  • Awesome! I like them!

    & will be more awesome if there’s a like button. :D

    Anyway, the facebook logo one there means like or share, huh?

  • Wow wonderful sharing stuff. I love these individual count shares. Actually I am already using add this on my websites and it really looks so attractive and best of all its free . Thank you so much for your services .

  • Leo

    Beautiful, as only AddThis can do it.

  • This is so great! How ever is there a way I can retain the share button at the end of the old one and still have the counters for linkedin and Pinterest?

  • The Facebook count is the total count, which includes both likes and shares.

  • Yep, you can! First, check out the Individual Share Counter documentation to see how you can create the individual counters. Then you take a look at our Client documentation. If you still have questions, just create a ticket!

  • Would love to see Google+ and also a generic AddThis share counter in this style (essentially AddThis button shows ALL stats rolled up, and when you click on it you get the lightbox popup to pick/search for your favorite social / bookmarking network to share on)

  • This is such a great tool. I love it.
    I’d love to be able to pass the pinterest media url and have you honor it. pi:pinit:media=””
    Right now, I pass that and you guys are ignoring it and just using the default pinterest pop-over (which is OK, but I really don’t like all the blurry small images it picks etc) would much rather just specify the media image and have you send directly to the Pinterest pop up.
    I’d love to be able to have this be the “like button” action instead of the “share”. Not sure if that’s possible per the Facebook TOS.

  • going to update addthis code on all of my websites )

    would be nice to have there stumbleupon counter too

  • Cindy Braid

    I am curious about my analytics sharing you provide me (thank you by the way) for my website. I do share to Pinterest by opening a new browser as if I am a customer. The reason why I do this, is, if I share from my website when I’m logged in, the link shows as spam.

    I always share to Facebook through my login on my website.
    So my question to you is~Am I also counted as one on your sharing analytics when I share my content and individual items to Face book and Pinterest?
    Thank you~Cindy~Double Dragon Jewelry Ltd

  • Ticket Lodge

    Yes, having a Google+ button is a must. It seems odd they left it off the list and went through the trouble of adding 2nd rate services like Reddit, Delicious, VK, and Odnoklassniki???

  • Really useful to show that data on each page. I found it very frustrating not having an overall share count and counts from other popular networks, especially Google+. I solved this issue by developing a tool to show the shares for a particular page it has been published on intelligentHQ I think some of you would find it useful! Do have a look and see how your page has been shared:

  • Fenhin

    Yes sharing to Pinterest is using very small blurry images even I have been set pin media in my meta

  • Hi Fenhin, can you send an email to with a screenshot of what you’re seeing so we can take a look?

  • Mike

    Definitely could do with a google +1 option, but other than that great!

  • Iriawan Cilacap

    The Facebook counter shows a question mark. How do I solve this ?

  • It could be for a couple of reasons. Can you email us with your URL so we can take a quick look?

  • Desirée Andersson

    Would like to se Instagram on Add This Button, not only in follow me button

  • Thanks for your feedback, Desiree!

  • Does this work for Google Plus and StumbleUpon?

  • Unfortunately, not at the moment.

  • Thank you for sharing this. the programming line will take you further

  • tjkammonen

    So now my site has Reddit counter and one page has – say – number 700 next to Reddit button. What does that number tell? What interactions are included in Reddit?

  • That number should indicate the number of shares on Reddit.

  • Amit

    how to get the share count from google + service ??

  • Hi Amit, unfortunately Google+ is something we no longer support for showing share counts.

  • Boy Hunted

    it is important web site

  • would be nice to have there stumbleupon counter too sistemi di gestione

  • Vinnie

    Where to add these codes ??

  • Hi Vinnie, this is the same as our other tools. You’ll need to add our Javascript and toolbox code to the body of your site. If you need a hand with this, feel free to email our support team at help [at] addthis [dot] com.

  • Vinnie

    I need the counter, like you have on this page . how can this be achieved on the sidebar

  • You can find more information about the Sharing Sidebar Counters here: Just login to your AddThis dashboard and activate the tool (first making sure our code is installed on your site).

  • Just checked out the link you posted and I am able to see share counts showing on your share buttons. Is this what you’re referring to?

  • Guruslord Mouthed

    I want to be about to call out the total share count myself

  • There is an option for obtaining share counts on your own from each of the seven services that we support share counts for. You can learn more about this here: If you need a hand with setting any of this up, please send us an email at help [at] addthis [dot] com and our support team can assist.

  • Guruslord Mouthed

    pls how can i get total share count using JSON, not getting it

  • Hi Lioa, you can choose to either select which services you want to show for share buttons yourself, or you can set them up to be personalized for each visitor, meaning visitors will see the social networks they use most often. When you’re setting up your share buttons in the tool configurator, this will be under the option listed as “Automatic” which is also what we recommend. If you need help with any of this, please email our support team at help [at] addthis [dot] com and we can assist :)

  • You can learn more about getting share counters from third-party services here: This won’t give you the total share count with one request, but you can use that to specify the services you want to request share counts for, and then use JS to add them together. We also have an AddThis share count that’s in JSON, which shows the total number of shares through AddThis tools:

  • thanks for sharing.
