Is Your AddThis Code Up-to-Date?

If it’s been a while since you got your AddThis code, you may not be enjoying all the benefits AddThis analytics have to offer. We’ve introduced a new Code Checkup feature for registered publishers that can examine your site’s AddThis code and determine whether it is up-to-date, and has the most recent features enabled.

Using Code Checkup

To checkup your own site, sign in to AddThis.com. When you start in Analytics, you’ll see a new link called Code Checkup next to your domain:

When you select that link, we’ll examine the code on your index page and make sure you’re all set to go with the latest AddThis analytics features like measuring traffic back to your site from social destinations, and tracking when your visitors copy your URLs into emails and IM conversations:

As always, we’d love to hear what you think about this new feature.

Not Registered with AddThis?

If you didn’t register when you got AddThis for your site, why not create an account and grab the latest code so you can take advantage of features like Code Checkup and industrial-strength analytics with live reporting and audience analysis? It only takes a moment, and we’ve added the latest sharing tools like Twitter Follow and Google +1.

We’re always looking for new ways to improve the user experience of our tools and offer elegant new ways to make sharing easy and fun. Along the way we strive for solutions that are simple, streamlined, and respectful of the look and feel of sites in which publishers install our software.

We’ve added three new entries to AddThis Labs that demonstrate these ideas and introduce some exciting new sharing tools you can use in your site or blog.

Design Updates

All three tools utilize enhanced AddThis sharing experiences that include:

  • a vertical sharing menu that presents more of the viewer’s personalized services to boost sharing
  • a redesigned email interface
  • a redesigned expanded service selection menu, to make finding your favorite services easier than ever
  • a redesigned share counter to visually match other counters you might be using on your site

Updated Toolbox

The first addition to AddThis Labs is an elegant 32x32px Toolbox which includes the design enhancements above. See it in action or just grab the code.

We’ve also create two other new surfaces for your sharing enjoyment:

Floating Horizontal Bar

Imagine a sharing tool that only presents itself when your readers are ready to share. The new floating horizontal bar is easy to install and remains out of the way until the viewer begins scrolling down your page. You can customize the size of the sharing options, as well as the color of the bar. See it in action or just grab the code.

Floating Vertical Bar

Like its counterpart, the floating vertical bar stays with the reader as he or she scrolls down the page, but does so in the margin of the page instead of across the top. Like all AddThis Tools, this menu is completely customizable and includes the design enhancements above. See it in action or just grab the code.

We want to hear from you!

We’d love to hear what you think about these features. Please visit our forum and leave us some feedback and as always, thank you for using AddThis.

Moving to Bigger, Better, and Faster Servers

We certainly hope you all had a great holiday.

The traffic on AddThis is continuing to grow very fast – we are now serving about 750,000 buttons per day, or over 8 per second – so we’ve decided to finally move to bigger, better, and faster servers.

The move will happen over the weekend. Disruption should be minimal.

Popular blog Read/Write Web just offered 5 widgets to its readers for Christmas. Guess who is on the list? Yep, the AddThis widget. Here is the list, from the original post:

Top 5 widgets every blogger must haveTracy Pizzo, the Director of Business Development at Widget box, emailed us a handpicked list of the top 5 must-have widgets for every blogger. This list was compiled based on popularity on Widget box, as well as ease of use and user appeal. The top 5 are:

Thank you Alex and Tracy, for mentioning us to Santa! ;-)

Less than 3 months after our launch at DEMOfall 2006, AddThis.com is already serving over 500,000 buttons each day (or over 20 millions to-date).

It’s probably time to upgrade our servers…! But we are just warming up. We think we’ll probably reach 1 Million in January.

So, thank you, to all of you for using AddThis. Please continue to spread the word.

We wish you a happy holiday season and a very social year 2007!

AddThis Makes Top 3 of Most Popular Widgets at WidgetBox.com

We are happy to report that the AddThis social bookmark button is now in the top 3 of the most popular widgets at Widgetbox.com.

AddThis Button for Blogger Beta

We’ve just added support for Blogger Beta. If you are using Google’s Blogger Beta for your blog, you can now add our bookmarking button on all your posts (past and future). All you need to do is add this code once to your template, and you are done.

“Add This!” FeedFlare For FeedBurner Users

If you are using FeedBurner to manage your feed, you can now easily add the “Add This!” FeedFlare to it. This will automatically add an “Add This!” link below each post (see image below).

Here is the URL of the FeedFlare. Copy it and paste it into your FeedBurner->Optimize->FeedFlare->Personal Flare box, and press “Add New Flare”. Then, check the two checkboxes next to the new entry, and hit “Save” at the bottom of the page.

And if you have a TypePad blog and you’ve decided to connect it to FeedBurner, the “Add This!” link will also show up in your blog.

Note: You don’t have to have Feedburner to include the “Add This!” link or “Add This!” button into your TypePad blog. You can also do it this way.

Socially yours!

AddThis Del.icio.us-ly Popular

Here is a powerful proof that AddThis simply works. Thanks to our button (and those of you using it, of course), today AddThis was listed on the Del.icio.us Popular page, [update: and the hot list, on main page] sending us a lot of traffic.

To make sure this is not just a coincidence, we looked at our AddThis Statistics tool, and sure enough, we observed a significant increase in the use of our button for bookmarking our website to Del.icio.us within the past 24 hours.

Blog Post Social Bookmarking Buttons

This is way overdue, but we finally found some time to develop them. We now also provide social bookmarking buttons that you can include in all your blog posts. This will make it easy for your readers to quickly bookmark a story from your blog (and promote it to the social bookmarking services). For an example of the buttons, look right below this post.

To get your button, go here. What you need to do is include the code we provide into the template of your blog. When you do that, it will automatically add the AddThis bookmarking button in all your posts (past and future). We support TypePad and MovableType, Blogger, and WordPress. More platforms will also be supported soon.

It’s easy to add the button to Blogger and WordPress. With TypePad it’s a little bit trickier. If you have TypePad and use their ‘Basic Template’, you first need to convert it into an ‘Advanced Template’. If you need help you can always contact TypePad Support; tell them that you want to add the AddThis social bookmarking button at the bottom of your blog posts. They will be able to help you.

On another note, if you haven’t noticed, we also recently added a ‘Demo Area’ to the AddThis website. This area shows some examples of websites and blogs that have included our buttons. Take a look!

Add This is really taking off. Everybody love our buttons. This is very encouraging. By the way, if you find a bug or would like to make suggestions for new features, remember, there is a form for it. We keep hearing great things about our buttons. If you don’t like something about them, please let us know, we want to hear that too. Here is the form again.

Have a great social day!
