How to Connect Payment Services to the Website Tip Jar

In order to receive tips or donations from your visitors through our Website Tip Jar buttons, you need to have an account with the service(s) you’re promoting. Currently, our buttons support PayPal.Me, AmazonSmile, Venmo, Square Cash (Cash.me) and Patreon. In addition to your account, you’ll need your payment link or user ID for setting up your Website Tip Jar buttons.

Note: You don’t need accounts with each of these five payment services, just the ones you’re promoting with your Website Tip Jar buttons. Visitors making donations will also need accounts.

Here’s how to find your user ID or payment link for each service:

PayPal.Me

How to Create Your PayPal.Me Payment Link

If you already have a PayPal account, creating your PayPal.Me link is easy. Just follow the instructions on this page. Once you have your PayPal.Me link, simply add it under Payment Services when setting up your PayPal Website Tip Jar button in the AddThis Dashboard.

AmazonSmile

How to Find Your AmazonSmile User ID

After registering your 501(c)(3) charitable organization on AmazonSmile, you can create your unique AmazonSmile link by adding your organization’s Tax ID Number (EIN) to the end of this URL: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/. For example, the AmazonSmile link for The Nature Conservancy is https://smile.amazon.com/ch/53-0242652.

When a user clicks on this link with your EIN number included, they’ll be brought to AmazonSmile and asked if they would like to change their charity of choice to your organization.

Once your nonprofit is registered with AmazonSmile, grab that URL and add it under Payment Services when setting up your AmazonSmile Website Tip Jar button in the AddThis Dashboard.

Venmo

How to Find Your Venmo User ID

The Venmo user ID needed to set up your Venmo Website Tip Jar button is simply your Venmo username. If you didn’t create a username when you first signed up for Venmo, you can do so here. If you already have a username, verify or edit it by following these instructions.

Once you have your Venmo username, add it under Payment Services when setting up your Venmo Website Tip Jar button in the AddThis Dashboard.

Square Cash (Cash.me)

  • Create your Square Cash account: cash.me

How to Claim Your Square Cash User ID

To claim your Square Cash user ID, also know as your “$Cashtag,” go to the bottom of this page. Once you create your $Cashtag, you’ll have a personalized Square Cash page where visitors can give you money. The URL for this page will be www.cash.me/$yourcashtag. This is the URL you’ll need to add under Payment Services when setting up your Square Cash Website Tip Jar button in the AddThis Dashboard.

Patreon

How to Find Your Patreon User ID

The Patreon user ID needed for setting up your Patreon website button is the URL for your published Patreon creator page. Patreon automatically assigns a user ID when you create your account, but you can go back and customize the URL for your creator page at any time.
