We’ve made a few changes in the AddThis tool gallery to help simplify and streamline how you customize and activate website tools.
Some of the changes include:
- All the tools in one centralized place for ease of setup
- Ability to preview how your tools will look on both mobile and desktop
- Simplification of tools – you no longer need to choose mobile or desktop
All the website tools you already had active will remain active and you can edit them the same as you would normally in the new configurator, with the exception of the Mobile Toolbar, the Recommended Content Drawer and the Email Newsletter Sharing Buttons.
Watch the overview video of the new configurator or review the walk-through below.
Where to find your buttons:
All of our share buttons are still available except for our Email Newsletter Sharing Buttons and the Mobile Toolbar. These tools are still available in your dashboard if you had them active but will no longer be editable, and once you turn them off they will be removed from your dashboard.
To find the button you’re looking for, follow the instructions below.
Mobile Sharing Toolbar and the Custom Mobile Sharing Toolbar: All of our tools are now mobile responsive, so there is no need to choose and activate a separate tool for mobile. To activate these two tools choose Share Buttons and then select “Sidebar” as the tool type.
Sharing Sidebar: Choose Share Buttons, and select “Sidebar” as the tool type in the configurator. From here you can customize the look and feel as well as show or hide on Mobile.
Jumbo Share Counter: Choose “Inline” and under Share Counters choose “Jumbo”.
Image Sharing Button: Choose Share Buttons and it will be available as a tool type, then configure as you normally would.
Original Sharing Buttons: Choose Share Buttons and the Inline tool type. Under design, choose “Original” then configure as you normally would.
Responsive Sharing Button: Choose Share Buttons and under design choose “Modern Responsive” then configure as you normally would.
Custom Sharing Sidebar and Custom Sharing Button: The ability to customize your website tools is now available across the entire suite. Simply choose “Design” and edit the shape, color and size of your buttons. More color options are available for AddThis Pro accounts.
Expanding Sharing Sidebar: Choose Share Buttons and then for tool type choose “Expanding”. Then configure as you normally would.
Email Newsletter Sharing Button: This button has been retired. It will still be supported if you have it active on your site but if you choose to turn it off, it will be removed from the gallery. However, you can still add Email Newsletter Sharing Buttons using the instructions in this article.
Horizontal and Vertical Follow buttons: Choose Follow Buttons and then choose style “Inline”. Once here you can choose the orientation “vertical” or “horizontal”.
Follow Header Buttons and Custom Follow Buttons: Choose Follow Buttons and then for tool type choose “Inline”. Here you can customize and configure as you normally would.
RELATED POSTS TOOLS (Previously Recommended Content tools)
The biggest change is that we renamed Recommended Content Tools to Related Posts.
What’s Next and What’s Next Mobile: Choose Related Posts and then style type “Slider”. You no longer have to choose mobile or desktop, it will work on both by default.
Horizontal Recommended Content and Vertical Recommended Content: Choose Related Posts, style type “Inline” and then choose the “horizontal” or “vertical” orientation in the drop-down menu.
Recommended Content Footer: Choose “Footer” as the tool type and then configure as you normally would.
Recommended Content Drawer: This button has been retired. It will still be supported if you have it active on your site, but if you choose to turn it off, it will be removed from your gallery.
Recommended Content Toaster: Choose Related Posts and then tool type “Slider”. In the configurator you can choose the style “one post” or “two posts” and where the tool should appear.
Jumbo Recommended Content Footer: This tool can now be found under the Related Posts Footer. Simply choose “Jumbo” under the style when configuring your tool.
For a tour of the new AddThis Configurator you can watch the video here or simply login to your dashboard and start playing with new tools.
If you already had the website tools active on your site, they will remain active. When you log into the dashboard you will see them as they exist today, but their naming instances might have changed to reflect the new names of the website tools. You can activate more than one type of tool and your gallery would reflect to have that shown on the list of your active website tools.
