7 Ways to Increase Website Conversions with AddThis Marketing Tools

website-conversion-tipsYou work hard to grow your website traffic through SEO, networking and social media marketing. Then the majority of your visitors bounce before even saying hello.

What if there was a better way to market to each visitor differently based on their source, behavior or even interests? Then you could show the right message to the right user and drive your goals.

That was the thinking behind our marketing tools. Now we’re taking a closer look at the tactics that will help you drive your goals using AddThis.

1. Ask new visitors to Like your Facebook page before they leave

New visitors are likely to bounce, so you might as well try to reel them in before they leave. This way you have a shot of bringing them back in the future.

2. Offer new visitors a coupon for their first purchase

Talk about a great way to turn traffic into customers before they bounce. You can also offer discounts to users about to abandon their shopping carts as an extra bonus.

3. Ask returning visitors to sign up for email updates

Returning visitors are your most valuable lot. These visitors are 7x more likely to give you their email address and 10x more likely to share.

4. Ask visitors from social networks to share your content

Visitors from social networks are twice as likely to share as other visitors. That way you can keep spreading the word about your site in social media.

5. Show a special call-to-action for visitors based on their interests

When your message resounds with visitors, the conversion rate triples. Like sports? This approach is a total home run.

6. Roll out the welcome mat for visitors referred by other sites

Incoming referral links can be a valuable long-term source of warm leads. Welcome these folks or consider giving them a special offer or coupon on your site for double the conversions.

7. Customize a message on your site for people coming from campaigns

If you’re running email or other online marketing campaigns, you can show an Audience Targeting rule based on the campaign name or medium. The sky’s the limit with this combination – up to 30x conversions.

Bonus: You can test multiple versions of the same message with different wording, images or colors to see what works best with AddThis Pro.

Seemed informative, but still missing the elements necessary to fully explain the potential benefits….

  • Carl Vaillancourt

I agree with Jim, how did you know the visitor likes sports???

  • Dave

Anything specifically you have questions about?

  • Robert S

    Really Carl?

  • Phil Holding

I agree with Jim S – how about “adding some meat to the bones” – for example – point 2 – discounts for customers about to abandon their shopping carts – HOW ?

  • Does Add This make a product that I can install on my site so that I can offer 1st time users a coupon code?

  • You can absolutely do that with AddThis!

  • Does it work on Squarespace sites?

  • Amar Chugg

If you can edit HTML code on Squarespace sites then yes.

  • I’d really like to capture people to join our email list. We have AddThis Pro and are excited about the possibilities, but we can’t get email capture to work with our email platform Hubspot. :-(
Hubspot can generate an embed code form with a JS and some HTML that we could insert but AddThis won’t let us insert this. Any ideas?

  • Unfortunately at this time we don’t have integration built with HubSpot email services. We’ll be sure to keep this in mind though.

  • How can you do the first option? I can’t find this within addthis pro

  • Phil Holding

Can anyone at Add This answer my question please? Adding a pop up with a discount to anyone reaching the shopping cart page is a bit crazy – that would be offering a discount to every customer!

  • Hi Alex, you can do this with the “Promote a URL” option with the Marketing Overlay tool. For instance, you can set one of the rules to display a “Like Us on Facebook” message to your visitors that links to your Facebook page.

  • I understand as there are a ton of email marketing systems out there, you can’t do them all.

However, this is why I suggest you let AddThis PRO customers (who are paying you!) be able to add a snippet of Javascript so that a Hubspot embed form appears. This would allow people to put whatever they want into the AddThis marketing popup tool.

  • Thank you for your feedback and thoughts. This is really helpful! I’ll be sure to share with the rest of the team.

  • Hi Phil, you can use the Marketing Overlay (which could promote said discount) to target specific audiences: new visitors, returning visitors, people coming from a particular social network, a referring domain. You can even target based on visitors’ interests. This way you don’t have to display the discount to everyone, but instead a particular segment of your audience. Hopefully this helps!

  • Love it function, but price… :(
