If you already have it planned out, go ahead and type it in. But we first recommending thinking about who you want to see this message, so then you know exactly how to word it.

Step 2: Set Your Goal

Every Audience Targeting rule has to have some end goal, something you want to achieve with it so your tools can measure its performance.

You can either Promote a Link you’d like your audience type to view, Collect Email for your newsletter, or ask them to Share to their preferred social network. For this example, we’ll pick the email option and set that up.

Hit the X next to the blue Save & Activate button to minimize the window. You should be able to see that the Audience Targeting rule template now looks something like this:

Step 3: Integrate Your Email Provider

One of the best features in Audience Targeting is its integration with leading email service providers. If you’re a MailChimp user, for example, you’ll love knowing that all your email subscribers are going into a dedicated list you set up within your MailChimp account.

To set up for MailChimp, or any of the other services, click on the icon and go through the steps to integrate. When you’re done, come back here.

Step 4: Pick Your Audience

In the bottom-left corner of your screen, you’ll see the option for Audiences. When you click on it, it’ll look like this:

A great thing about this feature is that it’s all based off of your own website’s audience! So you can personalize a message for each of these audience types.

We’ll click on Devices and select Mobile and Tablet users, for this example.

Hit Save, and you’ll be taken back to your last screen. Keep exploring the different audience options, meanwhile thinking about how you want to address each of those visitors.

You can get pretty elaborate, but for this example, we’ll stick to sending a specific message tailored just to this mobile audience.

Step 5: Make it Your Own

Here’s where you can customize the look and message for your rule. We added our own personal message tailored to our mobile and tablet audience:
