Social media has become an ingrained part of our everyday lives. It’s one of the main ways we communicate with one another. To put it into perspective, the total worldwide population is currently 7.7 billion. Within that, there are 3.499 billion active social media users.
That’s a lot of online activity. And as marketers, which platforms do you rely on to share content and connect with your target audience?
At AddThis, we have a wide digital footprint that spans across the globe. So, we decided to dive into to this question. We used our data to see which social media platforms are the most popular across the world.
The following chart is based on data from April 29-May 29, 2019. It focuses on a target list of countries and highlights the top social media platforms within each region. Based off of the country’s total number of shares within that time frame, we calculated the percentage of which each platform was used.
Breaking it Down
Surprise – Facebook and Twitter dominate the social media landscape! This is the case in the US (not pictured above) and the story in many other countries. However, there are several platforms rising in popularity. Here are the most widely used social media platforms within each country on the chart listed in descending order.
If you want to expand your brand’s social presence, there’s no denying social media makes the world a smaller, more connected place. And incorporating the right mix of social media platforms can magnify your reach and help you connect with your audience where they are.
