As you know, we recently joined Clearspring, the leading widget network connecting publishers and advertisers to audiences on the social web. Over the last several years, Clearspring has built a world-class analytics engine for distributed applications. Over the next several months, the AddThis team will be leveraging that engine to create and test all kinds of cool stuff as we build our Universal Sharing Platform. At the beginning, we are using it to get a better handle on how people are using AddThis. Moving forward, we will be using these insights to create a better sharing experience, deep publisher analytics, monetization capabilities, and more. This is an exciting time for AddThis, so stay tuned for more news. As always, let us know your ideas and suggestions – we would love your feedback (info at addthis.com). You can also check our Help section if you have questions.
AddThis is now part of Clearspring! In case you’ve missed the widget phenomenon, Clearspring is the leading platform in the category. In fact, they created the widget category. The company helps end users move embeddable content from one website to another, with just a few mouse clicks. Our two companies have a lot in common and everybody is very pleased about this merger. Both AddThis and Clearspring enable the sharing of content, which is becoming one of the fastest growing and most popular forms of communication on the Web.
The AddThis service will continue to enable simplified sharing. Nothing will change on your website, nor will you need to take any action either. I am confident that Clearspring is 100% committed to providing sharing tools that retain the look, feel and integrity of your website. As we move forward, we do have plans for integrating some of Clearspring’s analytics tools, to help you better track how your content is being spread. Of course, we’ll get you more information on those improvements as they become available.
A little history on this news: We’ve been working with Clearspring for a while. The relationship started as a proposed partnership however, after working closely together, we realized that the relationship was even more complementary then either side had originally anticipated. So, the leadership from both companies determined that together we could provide publishers with much more value as a single, unified entity. We saw that we could create a universal sharing platform for the Web. So, there you have it.
I want to thank everyone who has ever used the AddThis service and tell you that this is just the beginning. By uniting the two companies, we’ve become the No.1 content sharing service on the Internet.

We looked at our large amount of bookmarking/sharing data for the month of July. Here are the results. The top services are Facebook, Google Bookmarks, and MySpace … followed by Live, Delicious, and Digg.
Google Bookmarks has enjoyed first position for a long time, but now Facebook is suddenly taking over. We will be sure to check this data again next month, to see if this trend is continuing … this space is changing fast.
Today, we are very pleased to announce a new partnership between Snap and AddThis.
You’ve seen them everywhere…Snap Shots are a great tool that allows you to look at web sites/pages without clicking on the links.
Now, you can not only look at these web sites/pages, but you can also bookmark them and share them with other people with just a few clicks. See the AddThis ‘Share’ button in the sample Snap Shot below.
When you click the button you can now bookmark and share the Snap Shot via Email, Digg, Delicious, Facebook, MySpace, etc:
Enjoy! See you around the Snaposphere!
It’s already been 18 months since we launched, an eternity in Internet time, and AddThis is continuing to grow very fast. Here is a graph we wanted to share with you. It gives a good idea of how fast our button is spreading. The graph shows how many times the button has been served each month since we started in October 2006 – over 20 Billion times in April alone (that’s 7,500 per second).
We have recently done a lot of under-the-hood work, to keep up with this fast growth. Stay tuned, we are also working on a lot of cool new features, including more analytics, more customization.
We are experiencing issues with some of our servers. We are aware of the problem and working on it. This is not affecting the availability of our widget. It is only affecting our website and the bookmarking and sharing functions. We apologize for the inconvenience. We will update this post as soon as the issues are resolved.
Update: Problem solved. Both the website and the bookmarking/sharing functions are working again. Luckily, the downtime was short and the effects minimal. Thank you for your patience.
– The AddThis team
Well, it’s 2008. Hope you all got a chance to try the new features we added last month to your analytics interface. We already received some great feedback.
We’ve been busy preparing to move to our new platform. This new platform will enable AddThis to scale more easily and provide additional powerful capabilities to the service. We have now reached the milestone of 100 Million buttons served per day, so it was time to move again. The move will happen next week, the transition will be completely transparent.
We have also been busy coding new features for the button (widget). Many of you have asked us for more ways to customize the button, as well as for an email function. We listened…so here are the latest enhancements. Thank for your continuous feedback!

Service options customization – You can now customize the list of service options that appear in the dropdown (e.g. Del.icio.us, Digg, Facebook, etc). You can even remove the “More” choice completely, if you only want to provide access to the most popular services.
Dropdown positioning – We also added the ability to re-position the dropdown vertically or horizontally, if needed.
Email a Friend – We have added a new service option: Email. So when selecting your options for the dropdown, you can now include the keyword ’email’. When the user clicks on ‘Email’, the dropdown will transform itself into a tiny form to send an email notification to a friend.
Only a few more days and it’s already 2008. How time flies! We hope you are all enjoying the holiday season. Here is a brief message with the latest news about AddThis.
More Analytics. To help you start off the new year, we have upgraded our stats interface to give you more analytics about how your content is bookmarked and shared by your visitors. Here are the new features:

To try it, just go to your account ! By the way, we will be adding even more analytics soon. So be sure to add our widget now on all your pages, so that the tracking can already begin. Also, be sure to tell your friends about AddThis.
Our Team. Our team is expanding as well. We are excited to announce that Brian Jones has joined AddThis. Brian is a sys/admin/infrastructure guru; he founded Linuxlaboratory.org, created Python Magazine, helped found php|architect magazine, and is the co-author of Linux Server Hacks 2 for O’Reilly publishing. Brian is already working hard setting up tomorrow’s infrastructure for AddThis, making sure AddThis can continue to deliver its great service reliably as it continues to grow.
AddThis Trends. As most of you know by now, each month we publish a report of the top most active bookmarking/sharing and feed reader services. Below is the report for the top bookmarking/sharing services for November. You can find more reports here.

Happy holidays and best wishes for 2008!
The October data are in!
Facebook is continuing its amazing climb, taking the 3rd spot away from Del.icio.us. Favorites are back, stealing the first position from Google Bookmarks. Again, Favorites here means “browser bookmarking”, for any browser. On the Feed Reader front things are much more quiet. There was almost no changes between September and October.
Top Feed Readers – October 2007
Here are the trends for September. The first graph shows the evolution of the ranking for the top 10 social bookmarking services. We can clearly see the sudden rise of Facebook to the 4th position in September. Another interesting path is the one traced by Live, who was initially in the 6th position, was pushed down to the 8th position by Reddit and StumbleUpon in April, and then went back up all the way to the 4th position in July pushing down Digg and MyWeb.
As expect, September’s mover is Facebook, going from 5% in August to 7.1% in September. Delicious however lost a little bit of traction. Favorites (browser bookmarking) have also increased, but this is mostly due to the fact that Favorites are now also included in the drop-down widget.
Google Reader continues to grow and lead the feed reader market (up 1.4%) while MyYahoo and Bloglines are standing still. The mover for September is Live, which moved up 2%.
